Features

What Sets Us Apart

Explore the features that make saving your ChatGPT conversations easier, smarter, and more private.

Choose exactly what to export

Open the SELECT panel, tick messages, Shift+click for a range, or use the All, Questions, Answers, None and Invert presets. Then hit EXPORT, which reuses your last format, for one-click saves.

100% local and private

No server, no account, no analytics. Your conversations are processed in your browser and never leave it. It reads ChatGPT's own page data, so Markdown, timestamps and citations come out exact.

  • Eight export formats

Markdown, PDF, HTML, Word, plain text, JSON, CSV and PNG. Pick the one that fits where the chat is going next.

  • Copy instead of download

Copy a conversation as Markdown, text, JSON, CSV or rich text and paste it straight into Google Docs, Word or Notion.

  • Bulk export to a ZIP

Select many chats and download them together in one ZIP file instead of exporting them one by one.

  • Code, tables and math intact

Code blocks keep their language. Tables, lists, links, images and LaTeX math are handled too.

  • Reasoning, sources and Canvas

Include ChatGPT's thought process, web-search citations as numbered sources, Canvas documents, Deep Research reports, attachments and group-chat author names.

  • Right-click to export

Use the "Export this chat" entry in Chrome's right-click menu without touching the page buttons.

  • Keyboard shortcuts

Alt+Shift+S opens the panel, Alt+Shift+E exports instantly and Alt+Shift+P saves a PDF.

  • Your file names, your folder

Set a file-name template and a download sub-folder so exports land organised, not as a pile of untitled files.

  • Eight interface languages

English, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Hindi, Chinese and Japanese.

Frequently asked questions

Is ChatGPT Exporter really free?

Yes. It is free and open source under the MIT license. There is no account, no subscription and no paid tier.

Does my conversation get uploaded anywhere?

No. Everything runs inside your browser. There is no server, no account and no analytics, so your chats never leave your computer. The only requests the extension makes go to chatgpt.com, the site you are already on.

How do I save a ChatGPT conversation as a PDF?

Open the chat, click EXPORT or press Alt+Shift+P, and Chrome opens its print dialog. Choose "Save as PDF". The PDF is built from a clean print layout with your page size, margins, theme and fonts, not a screenshot of the page.

Can I export only part of a conversation?

Yes. Click SELECT to open the side panel, tick the messages you want, or Shift+click to pick a range. Presets for All, Questions, Answers, None and Invert make it quick.

Can I export all my ChatGPT conversations at once?

Yes. Bulk export lets you choose many chats and download them together in a single ZIP file.

Does it keep code blocks, tables and math?

Yes. Code blocks keep their language, and tables, lists, links, images and LaTeX math are handled too. ChatGPT reasoning, web-search citations (as numbered sources), Canvas documents, Deep Research reports, attachments and group-chat author names are included.

Why do I need to reload ChatGPT after installing?

Chrome only adds an extension to pages that load after it is installed. Reload any open ChatGPT tab once and the SELECT and EXPORT buttons will appear.

What happens when ChatGPT changes its website?

The extension reads the conversation from ChatGPT's own page data and falls back to reading the page if that fails. Still, a big redesign can break things until the extension is updated, so keep it up to date.

Which languages does the interface support?

English, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Hindi, Chinese and Japanese.

Is ChatGPT Exporter affiliated with OpenAI?

No. It is an independent project and is not affiliated with or endorsed by OpenAI. ChatGPT is a trademark of OpenAI.
